If you've been over near the junior high this year you've noticed the construction going on around there. This work, though a precursor of construction to come, is not actually the construction that has been anticipated since the passing of the bond issue on April 6 of this year.
Work on the new cafeteria spaces and shared kitchen for Webster and the junior high, along with three new classrooms for the junior high are still in the bidding stage.
According to Superintendent, Dr. Mark Mayo, the plans for the new additions have been completed. They are now being "taken to the street," meaning that the plans are now available to the public. The next three to four weeks will be spent taking bids from contractors and evaluating the offers.
As of now these bids will be for all of the new construction. This includes the cafeteria spaces and kitchen, three junior high classrooms, nine high school classrooms, and the new high school gymnasium.
"We should have all the bids in by the end of the year," Mayo explained of the bidding time frame.
Although work on the high school is still in it's beginning stages, one addition has already been made. One hundred new lockers were installed over Thanksgiving break. Administrators hope this small addition will help to alleviate some of the overcrowding until the new construction is finished.
